|RSL in the News|
RSL Fiber Systems was started in 2001 in Salem, New Jersey by Giovanni Tomasi as a joint venture of Skyler Technologies and Wire-Pro, Inc. to solve lighting and illumination problems on US Navy ships where in-service maintenance, radar cross section, EMI/RFI, corrosion, and total ownership costs were a concern. Utilizing the fiber optic technology, RSL developed and qualified illumination, navigation, and signaling lights that have been in use on US Navy ships since 2004.
Development efforts funded through grants from the US Navy and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and the company's own resources have created industry-changing lighting and sensing products improving workplace safety and efficiency, and lowering total ownership costs.
RSL is the first company to supply fiber optic lighting solutions to military ships to address issues including maintenance costs, corrosion, electronic interference, radar cross section and multi-mission requirements. We are proud to be the sole-source provider for the U.S. Navy for the LPD 17 Class, the DDG 1000 Stealth Destroyer Class, and for the Italian FREMM multi-mission frigate class. RSL has transitioned many designs and technologies that originated through military-focused development efforts into commercial markets to improve workers' safety and increasing productivity. Our machinery visual warning product is licensed from NIOSH and the light engine is approved by MSHA for use in both permissive non-permissive areas. The industrial lighting systems safely and efficiently provide illuminations in environments where explosive gases may be present and extremely high temperatures prevent the use of conventional lighting technologies.
Growth through “Disciplined Entrepreneurship” has been RSL’s operating style as confirmed by the company being ranked Fastest Growing Technology Manufacturer in Connecticut by the Connecticut Technology Council and Marcum LLP in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and making the Inc. 500 in 2010 (#404 overall, # 8 in manufacturing).
|Today RSL continues to support the US Navy and the power generation industry supplying lighting systems and developing innovative products that combine the latest technologies including visible lasers, LEDs, fiber optics, custom optics, and composite materials. In 2012 RSL expanded its product line to include fully passive, non-electric fiber optic sensors to monitor temperature and detect explosive gases in hazardous locations on the ground, underground, and in marine environments to enhance safety, lower maintenance costs, and increase productivity|
